Seven-Seat Tesla: Model Y vs Model X

Need more than five seats? Tesla has two answers in Europe, at very different prices. Here's how they compare, and how rare they are on the used market.

Browse 7-seat Model Y → Browse Model X →

Most Teslas are five-seaters. If you need extra seats, the options are a Model Y with the optional third row or a Model X with six or seven seats. The Model Y is far cheaper, but its third row is for children and short trips; the Model X is a genuine family car, with a price to match. Right now there are no seven-seat Model Y cars in Tesla's European used inventory — they are that rare.

The legacy seven-seater was sold for only a few months before the refresh, and the current one returned only in February 2026, so used ones are rare. Set an alert with the seats filter (PRO) to hear about new arrivals, and expect to look across several countries — see buying a Tesla in another country.

What to check on a seven-seat Tesla

Which one should you choose?

If you only occasionally need extra seats for children, a seven-seat Model Y is the sensible choice — if you can find one. If you regularly carry six or seven people, including adults, the Model X is the only Tesla that really does the job — our guide to buying a used Model S or Model X explains what to check on one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Tesla Model Y have seven seats?

It can. In Europe a seven-seat Model Y was offered from October 2024 until the refreshed model arrived in early 2025, and it returned in February 2026 on the Premium Long Range All-Wheel Drive, for €2,500 extra in Germany. Most Model Y cars have five seats.

Is the third row in a Model Y usable for adults?

Only for short trips. The two extra seats are best for children; adults will find leg and head room tight. With all seven seats in use, the boot shrinks to about 381 litres in the latest version.

How many seats does a Model X have?

Five, six or seven, depending on how it was ordered. The six-seat version has two individual seats in the middle row, which makes it easier to reach the third row.

How can I find a used seven-seat Tesla?

Use the seats filter on Tesla Inventory when you search for a Model Y or Model X. It reads the seat layout from Tesla's own listing; cars whose listing doesn't state a layout are included too, so confirm the seat count on the listing itself.
