How much is a used Tesla worth after one, three or five years? Here are today's median prices by model year, straight from Tesla's European inventory.
A buyer's guide from Tesla Inventory Europe · Updated October 2026
Depreciation is the biggest cost of owning most cars, and Teslas are no exception. Because Tesla sells new and used cars directly and changes prices often, its used market reacts quickly. The tables below show the median price of each model year on sale right now, so you can see how much a year of age is worth.
Used Model Y prices by year
| Model year | Used cars listed | Median price | Median mileage | One year older is |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 19 | €40,100 | 30,407 km | −9% |
| 2024 | 87 | €36,300 | 37,738 km | −1% |
| 2023 | 163 | €35,900 | 53,020 km | −2% |

How to read these tables
- Each year mixes versions. A model year includes Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range and Performance cars, so a year with more Performance cars looks more expensive.
- Generation changes create jumps. The Model 3 Highland (from 2024) and the Model Y Juniper (from 2025) are worth noticeably more than the cars they replaced, so the step between those years is larger than normal ageing.
- Mileage matters as much as age. Older cars have usually covered more kilometres; compare the mileage column too.
What drives Tesla depreciation
- New-car prices. When Tesla cuts new prices or launches a cheaper version, such as the Standard models in late 2025, used prices follow.
- Refreshes. A new generation makes the previous one look older overnight — see Highland vs Legacy and Juniper vs Legacy.
- Hardware. Cars with the newer AI4 computer can run FSD (Supervised) where it is approved; the European approvals so far cover AI4, and support for HW3 cars is limited and uncertain. See HW3 vs HW4.
- Lease returns. Large batches of three-year-old cars coming back from leases push prices down in some countries.
- Warranty left. Cars approaching the end of the 4-year basic warranty or the 8-year battery warranty are worth less to many buyers.
Finding the sweet spot
For many buyers the best value is a car that is two to four years old: the steepest part of the depreciation curve is behind it, it still has several years of battery warranty, and it usually costs far less than a new car. If you plan to keep the car for a long time, a newer car with more warranty and the latest hardware can still be worth the extra. Frequently Asked Questions
Do Teslas depreciate faster than other cars?
Teslas have tended to lose value quickly in their first years, partly because Tesla has repeatedly cut new-car prices, which pulls used prices down with them. After the first few years the decline usually slows, as with most cars.
Which model year of used Tesla is the best value?
Often a car that is two to four years old: most of the early depreciation has already happened, while plenty of battery warranty remains. Compare the price gap between years in the tables on this page with what the newer car adds, such as a refreshed design or the AI4 computer.
Why do new Tesla price cuts affect used prices?
Because a buyer can compare a used car directly with a new one. When Tesla lowers new prices or adds incentives, nearly-new used cars have to become cheaper to remain attractive.
